| The Art of Communication. John Ian projects his body gestures through hands and face expressing his thoughts and feelings. |
Can you survive for a day without talking to someone or even to yourself? Tracing back the footprints of early civilizations and the first breath of human existence, it is a fact that no one in this world can survive without communicating or expressing one’s own thought and feelings. The power of communication in any sense, is the one of the main reasons why the world continues to evolve. The croak of frogs searching for a mate at night, the sweet melodic chirp of the robins in the morning, the cock-a’doodle-doo of the rooster to wake people before sunrise, the crying of babies to tell their parents that they’re hungry, and the communication among plants and fungi, signify how communication works among humans and non-humans. As living beings, people need to express and understand the expressions of others. Whether we like it or not, the human society thrives on communication. Civilizations have risen and fallen based upon how good they were at maintaining sound relations with the rest of the world. This phenomenon among all creatures of the earth is the most crucial of all. Communication in any form, whether verbal or non-verbal, becomes the bridge for the people to convey direction and provides synchronization. Without communication, there’s no way to express ideas, thoughts and feelings.
I still remember my childhood days during the time I hardly cried because I want to get a toy car from a shelf. I can’t speak straight with my tongue then, and so I have no idea how I can convey my emotion to my mom verbally. I just uttered with my tiny lips and screamed “mamamama…” while pointing my finger straight to the toy. Without any hesitation, my mom answered, “Do you like this one?” and then I smiled. That is the power of communication—it understands the message in various forms, in any means. There are a million reasons why people need to communicate. Communication is essential if you intend to interact with family members, make friends with others or just simply express the sentiments of the heart. As of this moment, we are on the verge of a new age. The never-ending innovations of technology made communication attain new heights. Communication channels has never been this fast. Messages are being sent in real time, no matter where you are in the planet.
I belong to the iGeneration. I was born during the cradle of social networking sites and currently growing up with smartphones and tablets. The transmission of messages nowadays is as fast a gunshot. Using these communication tools, the transmission of message becomes faster through technological advances. Considering our modern times, media in the internet generation is far behind after the industrial revolution. The society also takes a big leap in modernity, sharing distinctive culture and institutions virtually. Responding to the question “Why should I communicate?” is like answering the question “Why I need to survive?” In a more vivid context, communication is the passage of all the feelings and ideas of any creature on earth. In my personal experiences with communication between people in all walks of life, it remain one of the most important activities why I am understood and valued. Frequent communication with various people as well as having a conversation with my inner self is also a best practice to let go of the hatred, to be more attractive, to be more loving, to increase popularity and be satisfied. Have you been communicating lately?
